Population

The population of the area covered by the RMSO is approximately 2,880,000.

Number of births

After a steady decrease in the number of births in the region, there is now a small rise in the number of births in the population covered. The data on total live and stillbirths for 1985 to 2008 is available as an Excel spreadsheet at the bottom of this page.

Geographic boundaries

The RMSO has always reported data to consistent geographical boundaries of the old Northern Region as this is essential for comparison with national data sources. Data is reported to old Heath Authority boundaries, though data at district level is available on request.
