Indications of Public Health in the English Regions No 6: Sexual Health
The most comprehensive picture of the sexual health of people in England was published by the Association of Public Health Observatories and the Health Protection Agency on 20 November 2006. Accompanying the report is a summary of key messages for the North East region, prepared by the North East PHO and HPA North East.

Major changes are underway in the NHS and it is vital that the focus on improving health and tackling inequalities in health is maintained during the transition period.

Mapping Physical Activity in the North East Region
Physical activity has a significant role to play in contributing to the health and well being of communities. Physical activity cuts across a range of different policy areas and drivers so consequently, no single agency or organisation has taken a primary role or responsibility for coordinating the planning and delivery of physical activity.
Mental Health Care Funding in England
This report sets out total and mental health allocations for each health authority from 1999/2000 to 2002/3 and for each primary care trust in 2003/4.

DRDs increased between 2003 and 2004 in the North East against a national falling trend. However, the North East has not been highlighted by np-SAD as having amongst the highest death rates nationally.

Child Dental Health in the North East of England 2003/2004
Since 2002, the dental health of children in the North East of England has continued to improve. However, there is still evidence of inequality on both dental health and access to dental health care.

The evidence base to support clear associations in this area were confused and lacked cohesion. It was therefore recommended that the UK Government ‘be encouraged to undertake an assessment into the links between good nutrition and educational performance’.
