I2SARE Regional Health Profiles
The European project I2SARE (Health Inequalities Indicators in the Regions of Europe) was established to produce a health profile for each region of the European Union, to create a typology of those regions of Europe and a typology of sub-regional territories in selected countries and regions. These new tools produced by I2SARE will give European, national, regional and local decision makers a quick and concentrated overview about the health situation in region in comparison with other European regions.

Final Report of the PHGEN Project
The Public Health Genomics European Network (PHGEN) was selected for funding by the European Commission in 2005 and started in 2006 as a networking exercise 1 to identify key experts on Public Health Genomics (PHG) in all EU member states, applicant countries, and EFTA-EEA countries 2 to provide an inventory of PHG issues and priorities in Europe 3 to contribute to the co-operation and exchange of information in order to enhance coherence and disseminate best practice 4. to identify legal diversities and barriers in a cross-border market 5. to promote and stimulate the countries’ efforts in this emerging field by developing PHGEN and by supporting effective net-working in order to reach sustainability. Thus, in the long run PHGEN aims to serve the European Commission as an “early detection unit” for horizon scanning, fact finding, and monitoring of the integration of genomebased knowledge and technologies into public health.
Health indicators in the European regions: Expanding regional comparisons to the new countries of the European Union - ISARE III
Most comparisons of health in Europe take place at the national level. However, there is increased interest in looking at health data at a sub-national level. This study aimed to establish the availability of health data at a regional level and to develop a methodology for the comparisons of health indicators at a sub-national level. In previous work on indicators at a regional level in the European Union, the authors recommended the development of such indicators. This paper takes into account the expansion of the European Union which took place in 2004.
Health statistics - Atlas on mortality in the European Union
Health statistics - Atlas on mortality in the European Union describes the situation regarding mortality in the Member States of the European Union. It is an update of an earlier publication published by Eurostat in 2002, based on data for the years 1994-1996. Since then the number of European countries included has increased considerably. The atlas includes 2002-2004 mortality data from National Statistical Authorities in the 27 Member States of the European Union plus Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Croatia, broken down by age and gender, by main causes of death and by 272 European regions. In addition, the selection of causes of death and the selection of indicators for inclusion in this atlas have been revised, and differences in risk factors as a potential basis for differences of mortality profiles are described.
Health Indicators in the European Regions - ISARE II.
Most comparisons of health data in Europe take place at the national level. However, there is increased interest in looking at health data at a sub-national level. This is because of the increased importance in many European countries, of regions and devolved powers to them. This study aimed to establish the availability of health data at a regional level and to construct an experimental database.
Occasional Paper No. 31: Using European Health Data for Commissioning
The concept of World Class Commissioning means that commissioners will have to assess the outcomes of commissioning, not only against England benchmarks, but also those further afield. This report examines comparable data from Europe to gain a better understanding of health.
A Short Guide to Europe
This document is intended to serve as a helpful reference and guide for those who are seeking to understand the European Union (EU) institutions especially in relation to public health.
Occasional Paper 12 - Comparison of Health in Moravia Silesia (Moravskoslezsky) in the Czech Republic and the North East Region of England
The North East Assembly signed an agreement with the region of Moravia Silesia to enable the sharing of experiences and facilitate learning. The region in the Czech Republic was identified in a separate piece of work to identify comparable regions with the North East. In November 2004, the PHO was asked to undertake a comparative analysis of the available health data in the two regions.
