A Rapid Health Impact Assessment of the Draft Regional Economic Strategy (June 2005)

The North East PHO has published its report of a rapid appraisal health impact assessment (HIA) carried out as part of the the formal consultation on the North East's revised Regional Economic Strategy (RES). The purpose of the HIA was to ensure that issues of public health, health inequalities and health care are incorporated into the revised RES. Given the relationship between worklessness and poor health, there is no doubt that attempts to improve both our economic position and the health of our population must work hand in hand. The formal consultation period has provided a valuable opportunity for the health sector to contribute to the development of the RES.
