The conference will be of interest to medical practitioners, nutritionists, dietitians, clinical researchers, scientists and others working in, or with special interests in the field of bariatric surgery, related areas of medicine and weight loss management Conference aims Bariatric Surgery is undergoing rapid expansion in the UK. It is acknowledged that there are considerable problems with the quality of the evidence base which is leading to wide variations in practice. Many controversies in this field remain unresolved. The aim of this conference is to critically discuss and appraise the current state of development of the scientific evidence base in the field of Bariatric Surgery in the UK. Presentations will explore Proposed neuroendocrine and other mechanisms of action of different forms of Bariatric Surgery The proposed mechanisms responsible for its impact on medical comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus The potential role of new and emerging techniques and technologies Areas of controversy in the field of Bariatric nutrition The evidence for and potential place of psychological interventions The limitations of current trial data, gaps in this evidence base and areas where further research is required Accreditation: BDA and CPD applied for
